Lifetime

Lifetime is a body of work consisting of paintings and drawings that explore themes related to family, memory, and the affective nature of daily existence. Using a highly personal point of view, Avanessian contemplates the neglected experiences of life that build up through our daily lives.

With an increasing body of his own personal photographs as a growing source, he takes inspiration for his artwork from these images of his immediate surroundings, which include family members, domestic interiors, travel photos, and even seemingly inconsequential things like his bathroom cast in dusk's purple shadows. In his work, he chooses these images selectively and creates new meaning through painting and drawing.

The act of documenting, reflecting on, and transforming these common sights into artwork makes it possible for him to study the way in which these moments of everyday life serve as markers of time, emotion, and connection. Lifetime gives viewers insight into how even commonplace objects can be infused with beauty and importance.
